About me

My life began in the wonderful city of Fountain Valley. My name is John and I’m a student at Fountain Valley High School. However, my high school life began at Marina High School. Transitioning from middle school to high school wasn’t an easy transformation. My freshman year at Marina could simply be described as boring and lifeless; nothing big impacted my life because I was still getting used to the high school atmosphere. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to transfer to Fountain Valley High School, my sophomore year, and finally begin my high school journey. Transferring to Fountain Valley High was the turning point in my life. At my new high school, I got involved in Link Crew, Key Club, basketball, and senate; all while making new friends and creating memorable memories. Transferring to Fountain Valley High changed my life completely. Here, I discovered my passion and developed a strong, great relationship with all the new friends I’ve met. I plan to share more remarkable memories through this new website in the future.

Modern Slavery

One of the biggest problems in today’s world, is slavery. Slavery has been around probably since the beginning of man, where darwinism or “survival of the fittest” was happening. Through the course of history, humans finally  became sophisticated enough to understand that slavery was wrong and abolished slavery for good in 1981 by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. However it was still considered not a crime until 2007. Believe it or not, slavery is still operating today and is more common than ever. “There are now twice as many people enslaved in the world as there were in the 350 years of the transatlantic slave trade.” As far as I can tell, human trafficking or slavery is common today than in the past because it is easier to transport people compared to the past where the only transportation they had was by a boat or ship.

slave-300Human trafficking and slavery is much more common in today’s world compared to the past because of new technological innovations. In today’s world, it is a lot easier to transport people to different areas of the world. There are airplanes, trains, cars, and etc. whereas in the past transportation was very limited. Back then slaves were incredibly expensive, they cost about the equivalent of $40,000 to today’s currency. A modern slave cost about $90 today. Because of these factors, slaves are easily bought and move to a certain location. From the articles I have read these past few weeks,  if a slave get an illness, they will be dispose of. The fact that people are treated like used toys absolutely disgust me.

The stories I read where a person becomes a slave truly saddens me. Most of the stories has the same background, a person wanting a better life. In an article that I read about human trafficking, a woman named Hien was approached by a matchmaker in her village promising there was a rich traff2Taiwanese man who will love and honor her as his new mom. When she arrived, she already was forced to work. She was abused by her “caring husband” and mother in-law for days end. When she couldn’t take the abuse anymore she tried to commit suicide by hanging herself with a cloth. The suicide attempt failed and later she found out that she was 5-weeks pregnant. Her husband and mother in-law did not want another kid, and tried forcing her to have an abortion. She refused, and “they began to systematically beat her repeatedly punching and kicking her in the stomach for days end.”  When I read this part, there was a bad taste in my mouth and sympathy. The story did have a happy ending, where the Vietnamese Migrant Workers and Brides Office (VMWBO) helped her sue her husband and return home to Vietnam.

Hien’s story serves perfectly to a quote from the autobiography Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave. The quote states “without struggle, there can be no progress.” According to VMWBO, “Hien bravely requested her story to be written down as a prospective brides.” I believe that if the world works together we can help put slavery to an end. “Men have their choice in this world. They can be angels, or may be demons.”

One of the world’s social problems since the beginning of mankind is stealing. As far as I can tell, at least everyone in their life will have to deal with something getting stolen from their personal belongings. SwiperIt is also from the ten commandments of the bible – “Thou shalt not steal.” According to the NASP, 27 million Americans are shoplifters. That’s a 1 in 11 chance that every person you meet in the United States are shoplifters. A theory that I came across on, due to past experiences on why people steal is because it is a taboo in society. According to studies, when a person do something that is prohibited, their adrenaline rush starts rushing through their party, feeling a state of euphoria. Another possible reason why people steal is peer pressure. The group of people who are mostly associated or categorized in stealing under peer pressure are teens. Teens who steal usually has low self-esteem and think that the only way they can fit in is to steal, and be “cool.”

I believe that parents should get a hold of their children activities and take control of their children decision until they’re about a reasonable age. Cartoon Robber Caught in the ActIf parents do not take control then their kids will lead to a life of crime. All it takes is one busted attempt, and it will be forever on the person’s record. Call me a savage but in my opinion, house burglars who has been caught, should have their hands cut off. Not only did they violate a person’s safe haven, they also subconsciously paranoid the victims.

When it’s all said and done, thieves will have what’s coming for them in the future, and karma will make them pay. Someone should never ever , steal, steal, steal from someone’s personal belongings.

The Cabin

In the winter of 2013 ,there were two teenagers by the name of Annan and Janet. The two were immensely in love with each other and decided that they wanted to go on a cabin trip, in the deep woods of Connecticut for their six months anniversary. Haunted-woods-taken-at-Hoar-Cross-National-Forest-LeicestershireOn the way to the cabin they saw something unusual on the icy winter road. It had a figure of a human but something bizarre was sticking out of its arms. The couple ignored it and carried on to their way to the cabin. Annan and Janet finally arrived at the cabin and when Janet stepped out of the car, she felt like someone was watching her, lurking in the shadows from behind the misty trees. Her concentration was interrupted when Annan grabbed her hand and peck her on her rosy cheeks. After the warm gesture, she entirely forgot about the strange sight and headed into the cabin with Annan.

When the couple stepped inside the warm comfy cabin, they started to unpack and take out food to make dinner after the long drive. While Janet was taking out the food, Annan decided to turn on the lights, it flickered and then fried out like a light bulb in science class. He then we3104520-cozy-wooden-cottage-in-dark-winter-forest-stock-photo-winter-snow-nightnt outside the cabin to check on the generator, there he saw a hazy figure with a disturbing smile coming towards him. A panicking Annan booked it out of the generator and sprinted inside the cabin. When Annan arrived in the kitchen where Janet was originally in, he saw her on the ground, motionless in a cradle position. Annan let out a huge cry and when he turned around, the hazy shadowy figure from before appeared right in front of him smiling…mr__shadowy_figure_by_aftershockcipher-d30c4k9

Clichés Are For the Weak

People tend to stay away from anything that seems unclean. They avoid it in the worst manner, not giving it any chance to show its worth. Mud for example, is seen as nothing but dirt and water. People step over puddles of mud. They tell their children not to get anywhere near it, as if it were cancerous, but in reality, mud is the exact opposite. In recent studies, researchers have shown that mud is good for a child’s immune system. Mud also contains a microscopic bacteria called  Mycobacterium vaccae, that increases levels of serotonin in our brains- relieving stress.Mud_Volcano_in_Gobustan_01

Mud is not only beneficial to health- It is used essentially used as a beneficial product around the world. The Haitians are so poor, they resort in making, selling, and eating a sort of mud-cookie. The mud-cookie is the only food they have, and has become popular for over some years now. Another example of mud used favorably is in spas and spa treatments. At home mud-masks are easily accessible, and some spas offer mud baths. The mud is used to relieve muscle pain, detoxify, relieve stress, soften skin, and more. Animals like elephants, hippopotamuses, rhinos, and even pigs plunge themselves into mud to cool off. In these situations, the mud protects the animal’s skin from sunburn, insects, parasites, and- in some cases- overheating.images

Clearly, mud is not given enough credit for. People don’t acknowledge its uses because it is “dirty.” The fact is, mud is a cheap and natural remedy.

Personality Types

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 10.51.59 PMHave you ever wondered about personality types? How people perceive the world and make decisions? The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) constructed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers can help indicate a person’s psychological preferences. The MBTI has sixteen distinctive personality traits that are based upon an individual’s psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions. Millions of MBTI tests have been taken by people and used for a variety of different things such as; career exploration, education, and relationships.

Are you an extrovert or an introvert? Do you prefer to just accept the fact or add meaning to the information? When you make decisions do you rely on your feelings or do you use your mind to make them? Are you more of a judging or perceiving person? These kinds of questions help determine which one of sixteen personality traits you have.Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 10.52.12 PM

In order to determine your personality type, you must take a test and answer various questions on how you feel, think, judge, perceive, sense, etc.in that specific situation. There are four different letters that give you your MBTI in the end. You can either be an I- introvert or E- extrovert, S- sensing or N- intuitive, T- thinking or F- feeling, and J-judging or P-perceiving kind of person. The sixteen MBTI traits are: ISFP, ISTJ, ISFJ, ESTP, ESFP, ESTJ, ESFJ, INTP, INFP, INTJ, INFJ, ENTP, ENFP, ENTJ, ENFJ.

Screen Shot 2015-10-23 at 10.52.24 PMEach personality type has specific kinds of traits that cater to that one group. More information can be found on the web after the test is taken.

I personally took the online test at MTBI and this website had stated that I was an INTP. INTP’s are apparently only make up three percent of the population. The website states “INTPs pride themselves on their inventiveness and creativity, their unique perspective and vigorous intellect. Usually known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor, INTPs have been responsible for many scientific discoveries throughout history.” Interesting, I told myself. I’ve always wondered what my family’s personality traits are and I’m in the process of having them all take the test just to ease my curiosity. Maybe you, the reader, can take the test too. 😉Let me know your results in the comment section below!

Are We Writing Our Own Future Or is Life Predetermined

When I went home from school with no homework to do, I wondered to myself, “what should I do?” I usually play games such as League Of Legends and Hearthstone, but for some apparent reason, I couldn’t. So I turned to my go-to movies that were always enjoyable to watch again. The list included Whiplash, The Green Mile, The Prestige, Forrest Gump, Inception, Interstellar, and many much more. However due to my sleeping schedule I decided to pick one movie. To go to sleep on a good note, I was going to watch Forrest Gump but right when I was about to watch it, a recommended movie is shown at the corner of my screen and it was a movie featuring Jim Carrey.

The movie was also in Imdb‘s top 250 movies of all time. As i try to gain a knowing of the movie around the internet, the film’s synopsis was quite intriguing; a man’s life orchestrated by a television set when he was a fetus to a twenty-nine year old man. The synopsis reeled me in and as I watched the first thirty minutes, the show was truly great. After watching the film, one quote that stood out was when Ed Davis’ character Christof, said “we accept the reality of the world with which we’re presented.” This quote has a huge effect on me because it is makes me wonder if my life\future is being orchestrated by a television show or an all-knowing creator. An interesting fact about the movie is that the place where Truman lived was called Seahaven. When rearranged it comes out to be “As heaven.”In the movie, Christof said the world he created is much better than the real world outside, in which he says that it has even more deception and lies than the one Truman is living on.

TRUMAN_SHOW_SCE-489_resize1I speculate that the producers of the film tried to make us see that Seahaven is Heaven, as Christof stated that it is the safest place for Truman to be in. Another fun fact is that the creator of Truman’s show – Christof, name can formed “Of Christ.” The producers personified this when Christof was talking to Truman from an artificial moon, at the top of the dome where he controls everything that Truman does.

The movie itself has many philosophical themes behind it, and it raises a lot of questions in how we view our life. It was so powerful and captivating that after watching the movie people developed the “Truman Syndrome,” which is when they believe that their life are staged plays or a television show.  My take from the movie is that the future is ours, and it is up to us to take control of our future.

10/10 I would watch this movie again and add it to my list of great movies. I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone.
